About Us

Being the longest established law firm in Burnham-on-Sea doesn’t of itself give us reason to believe we are the leading solicitors practice in the area. However, combined with our acknowledged wealth of experience, expertise and in-depth “feel” for our community, we feel confident in our ability to provide a legal service second-to-none in the locality.

Our firm was established over 130 years ago in the town and has been providing a high level of professional legal service to individuals, families and businesses consistently ever since.

Originally established by its founder Benjamin Comer Board as B C Board Solicitor in 1879 the firm later became B C Board & Stiling when a partnership was formed with W H C Stiling. Following the founder's death the firm became Board, Stiling and Wolstenholme until 1958 when the name changed to Board, Stiling and Alletson upon Herbert Alletson joining the partnership. Over the years the name has been steadily shortened for practical purposes until today we are known simply as Alletsons.

Interestingly Alletsons is still in the same street in Burnham where it began life over a century and a quarter ago. College Street has been its home over three different centuries and the firm moved to its current offices in 1985.

Today the firm has two experienced partners who specialise in different aspects of the legal services we offer our clients.

Ian Merryweather
Ian Merryweather Ian joined Alletsons in 1993, becoming a partner the following year. Having accumulated 30 years’ experience since qualifying in 1984, Ian specialises in probate, trust and older client work and handles a large proportion of the firm’s work in these important areas as well as other non-contentious matters including will drafting, conveyancing and commercial property work. Ian is a member of the Solicitors for the Elderly organisation and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Richard Williams
Richard Williams Richard joined the firm in 1998 as a trainee solicitor, qualifying in 2000 and becoming a partner in 2003. Richard also specialises in the non–contentious aspects of the firm’s work including conveyancing, wills, probate and older client work. Richard is heavily involved in the local community and has previously been a member of Burnham on Sea and Highbridge Round Table.

The partners are supported by associate Hallam Merryweather.

Hallam Merryweather

Hallam_Merryweather.jpg Hallam, Ian's son, is the most recent addition to the firm and joined Alletsons as a trainee solicitor in 2012. Qualifying as an associate solicitor in August 2014, Hallam is predominantly involved with residential and commercial conveyancing, divorce and relationship breakdown cases and will drafting. He also has experience of civil disputes and employment matters and has been an accredited civil and commercial mediator. Ever keen to engage with the community, Hallam has been involved with the Scouting movement for a number of years and currently runs both a Scout troop and a Scout & Guide brass band.
